LOS ANGELES - Tawni Martino's goal with 6:39 to play snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the LMU women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Montana Friday at Sullivan Field.
It was the second straight win for the Lions who move to 2-1-0 on the young season. The Grizzlies fall to 0-1-2.
Despite a healthy 11-3 shot advantage, the Lions were unable to find the back of the net in the first frame and the teams went into the break scoreless.
Montana broke through first in the second half as Ashley Robertson scored her second goal of the season in the 62nd minute, slipping in a close range shot off a cross from Mary Makris.
Jocelyn Blankenship responded for the Lions, netting her first goal of the season on the 75th minute. Making a run straight into the box, she connected her head on a low cross from Madison Heilmann, knocking the ball past Montana keeper Kendra McMillen.
LMU finished with a 22-5 shut advantage in the come-from-behind win.
The Lions' three-game homestand concludes Sunday when they host UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m.
