STANFORD, Calif. - The LMU women's soccer team battled #4 Stanford Friday night at Cage Stadium, but the Cardinal used a second-half surge to pull away as the Lions fell, 4-0.
The teams held each other scoreless for nearly the entire first half before Stanford broke through with an unassisted goal by Stephanie Amack just inside the 42 minute mark.
The Cardinal (3-0-1) then struck three times early in the second half. Courtney Verloo scored on a 25-yard free kick in the 50th minute, Megan Turner netted a goal off a Verloo assist in the 52nd minute and Taylor Uhl added an insurance goal at the 68:23 mark.
The Lions(3-2-0) had seven shots, including a team-high two by Madison Heilmann, but the Cardinal goalkeeping duo of Jane Campbell and Sarah Cox combined for three saves to maintain the shutout.
LMU continues its four-game road swing on Sunday, traveling to face Long Beach State. Kick off in Long Beach is scheduled for 6 p.m.
