LONG BEACH, Calif. - The season's first road win remained elusive Sunday night as the LMU women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to Long Beach State at George Allen Field in Long Beach.
The result dropped the Lions to an even 3-3-0 on the year while the 49ers moved to 3-2-0.
LMU held a slight 15-11 shot advantage, but it was an unassisted goal by LBSU's Hannah Sanders just 39 seconds into the second half that would be the only shot to find the back of the net on the night. Sanders' goal came after a shot of her own that was saved by LMU's Brittany Jagger, but came back into play for her to push back into the goal.
A physical battle throughout, the Lions concluded play with just nine field players as Cassidy Nicks was sent off with a red card in the 74th minute and Nikki Martino drew a red card with four minutes to play. Both players will be fired to sit out the Lions' next match, a Friday, Sept. 13 meeting at Cal State Fullerton.
Kick off against the Titans is scheduled for 7 p.m.
