LOS ANGELES - The LMU women's soccer team closed out the opening weekend of West Coast Conference play with a 3-1 setback to visiting Gonzaga Sunday.
Gonzaga (5-6-1, 1-1-0 WCC) scored twice in the opening five minutes and added a third goal midway through the half to take a 3-0 advantage into the break.
LMU (3-10-0, 0-2-0 WCC) got one goal back 10 minutes into the second half on Jocelyn Blankenship's team-leading third goal of the season. After Tawni Martino was taken down by a Gonzaga defender deep in the box, Blankenship made good on the ensuing penalty kick.
The Lions finished with 11 shots, including three on goal, while the Zags had 10 shots, nine on frame. LMU's Brittany Jagger came up with six saves in the match.
LMU returns to action Thursday, Oct. 17 at San Diego. Kick off from Torero Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
