Tawni Martino inched closer to the all-time LMU scoring record with a game-tying goal in the the 52nd minute, but a late penalty kick by San Diego left the LMU women's soccer team on the short end of a 2-1 final at Torero Stadium Thursday night.

SAN DIEGO - Tawni Martino inched closer to the all-time LMU scoring record with a game-tying goal in the the 52nd minute, but a late penalty kick by San Diego left the LMU women's soccer team on the short end of a 2-1 final at Torero Stadium Thursday night.
San Diego struck at the 21:39 mark , converting off their fifth corner kick of the nigth. Emily Dillon swung the ball in from the left corner for Caitlyn Kretzschmar, who finished past Lion goalkeeper Sophia Leksan.
Martino's goal, her third of the season, came at the 51:39 mark as she finished a shot by Shannon Kent that hit off the crossbar and back into play. The senior now has 19 goals for her career - one shy of the program's career scoring mark.
The ultimate game-winner came with just under 13 minutes to play as Dillon converted a penalty kick opportunity following an LMU foul in the box.
The Lions (3-11, 0-3 WCC) return to action Saturday, taking on BYU in Provo, Utah. Kick off from South Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. Pacific and will air live on BYUtv.
