Lions Fall to No. 12 Waves
Katherine Henshall netted her first collegiate goal Sunday at No. 12 Pepperdine.
MALIBU, Calif. - The LMU women's soccer team wrapped up a three-match road swing and its final outing of the season away from Sullivan Field with a 3-1 setback to No. 12 Pepperdine Sunday afternoon.
Pepperdine (14-2-3, 5-1-2 WCC) would score twice late in the first half and add a third goal early in the second to take a 3-0 lead over LMU. The Lions (9-7-2, 2-5-1 WCC) avoided the shutout with a goal by Katherine Henshall in the 78th minute.
After the Lions held the Waves potent offense scoreless for more than 30 minutes, Pepperdine finally broke through in the 34th minute on a penalty kick by Lynn Williams. Colby Carson made it 2-0 Waves just two minutes later as Pepperdine carried a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the 61st minute, Kristine Hilliard would score on a 30-yard shot to make it 3-0 Waves.
Morgan Hilby picked up her sixth assist of the season for LMU when she fed Henshall for a shot from just outside the box into the far left corner netting at the 77:49 mark.
LMU goalkeeper Sophia Leksan made seven saves on the day while Pepperdin'e Hannah Seabert had four.
The Lions return to Sullivan Field for their final match of the 2014 season, hosting San Diego on Saturday, Nov. 8. Seniors Jenni Benger, Brianne Medved and Amanda Dudley will be honored prior to the 7 p.m. kick off.
