LOS ANGELES - Adding to the Orange County contingent on this year's LMU women's soccer squad is the sixth member of the Lions' 2013 recruiting class - defender Katherine Henshall who hails from Woodbridge High School in Irvine.
A soccer and softball letterwinner for the Warriors, Henshall will strengthen the LMU defensive corp this fall. She was the defensive MVP of her Woodbridge team in both her junior and senior seasons and was also a team captain as a senior. Henshall also earned All-Pacific Coast League honors as a senior.
"Katherine is one of those players that when you first size her up you think 'no problem' because of her small stature," LMU Head Coach Michelle Myers said. "That is a mistake, and you will soon find out what she is really made of. She is tough, hard working and extremely competitive. Don't let her size fool you. Katherine has the ability and experience to play both as a wide or central defender. With her technical ability and pace she could find herself as an attacking outside back which is an important piece in our system of play."
In addition to competing for Woodbridge, Henshall played for coach Glenn Strachan at Wolfpack Soccer Club who were members of the Coast Soccer Premier League and perennial top-16 finishers in Cal South National Cup competitions. Henshall also excelled in the classroom and has been a four year member of both the Woodbridge High School Principal's Honor Roll and a Woodbridge High School Scholar-Athlete. Off of the field, Henshall will add tremendously to the LMU community as she enjoys doing charity work at soccer clinics for disabled and underprivileged players along with working in charities at the St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Irvine. Henshall will also be continuing a family tradition here at LMU with three of her aunts having graduated from LMU.
Check back tomorrow as we profile the seventh of eight incoming freshman on the 2013 LMU women's soccer squad.
