Aug. 1, 2003

Los Angeles, CA The West Coast Conference released today the 2003 Preseason Coaches poll where the Lions were picked to finish fifth among league members. All of the top five teams were 2002 NCAA College Cup participants.

LMU is looking to build on a 2002 season which saw it make its first ever NCAA tournament appearance. The Lions return 10 starters from last year's squad and hope a year's worth of experience and youth will help propel them into another postseason appearance.

Sharing the top spot in the poll was NCAA Champion Portland and Santa Clara, who clashed in the championship game of the tournament last year. Pepperdine was selected third with San Diego following at fourth. Behind the Lions is Saint Mary's slated to finish sixth. San Francisco and Gonzaga round out the field picked to finish seventh and eighth, respectively.
