Blankenship Named Preseason All-WCC
One full week into preseason training, the LMU women's soccer team is prepping for Friday's exhibition match against Grand Canyon.

LOS ANGELES - Junior midfielder Jocelyn Blankenship was named to the 2014 All-West Coast Conference Preseason Women's Soccer Team and the Lions were picked ninth in the 10-team league, as voted by the WCC's 10 head coaches.
Blankenship was a second team All-WCC selection at the conclusion of the 2013 season, finishing with a team-high 11 points on four goals and three assists. As the 2014 campaign begins, she will be a leader on and off the field on a squad with three seniors, seven juniors (including two transfers), three sophomores and 19 freshmen (six redshirts and 13 true freshmen).
The young Lion squad earned 20 points in the preseason poll, good for ninth place. BYU earned 73 points and three first-place votes to top the preseason poll. Portland was second with 72 points and Santa Clara was third with 69 points. Both the Pilots and Broncos also earned three first-place votes each.
Pepperdine was fourth (57 points) and San Diego was fifth (54 points), while also earning the final first-place vote. San Francisco was picked sixth (35 points), followed by Saint Mary's in seventh (29 points), Gonzaga in eighth (25 points), LMU in ninth and Pacific in 10th (16 points).
The LMU Sports Network caught up with Blankenship and freshman midfielder Maddie Medved to get their insight on preseason training thus far, along with their building excitement fom Friday's opener.
LMU kicks off the 2014 season with an exhibition match against Grand Canyon at Sullivan Field on August 15 at 7 p.m.
