SAN BRUNO, Calif. - LMU women's soccer has been selected to finish sixth in the West Coast Conference, as voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.

Santa Clara is the preseason favorite, earning nine first-place votes and 81 total points. Portland was picked second, earning one first-place vote and 68 points. BYU was selected third with 67 points, Pepperdine was fourth with 57 points and San Diego was fifth with 51 points.

The Lions earned 38 points to be voted into sixth place. They were followed by San Francisco (7th, 29 points), Saint Mary's (8th, 26 points), Gonzaga (9th, 22 points) and WCC newcomer Pacific (10th, 10 points).

LMU's rigorous nine-match West Coast Conference slate begins with a homestand against Portland (Oct. 11) and Gonzaga (Oct. 13). The Lions will be on the road for WCC matches against San Diego (Oct. 17), BYU (Oct. 19), Santa Clara (Nov. 1) and San Francisco (Nov. 3). They will host Saint Mary's (Oct. 25), new member Pacific (Oct. 27) and PCH Cup rival Pepperdine (Nov. 9).

The WCC sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament last fall including BYU (quarterfinals), Portland (second round), Pepperdine (first round) and Santa Clara (second round). The Lions, who went 9-8-2 overall, finished 3-5-0 in league play, good for sixth place.
