LOS ANGELES - A new look LMU women's soccer team will officially debut on Friday night at Sullivan Field as the 2014 season gets underway. The Lions, who do have one exhibition match under their belts, host New Mexico State with a scheduled 7 p.m. kick off. The season opening weekend concludes Sunday with a 1 p.m. kick off against Cleveland State.

The 2013 squad graduated 10 seniors, making way for a 13-member rookie class this fall. Add in three junior transfers and six redshirt freshmen and this year's Lions have a whole new feel.

"It's exciting with all these new players and new expectations, and it's also a little bit of a challenge," said third year Head Coach Michelle Myers.

Redshirt senior defender Jenni Benger, senior midfielder Brianne Medved, junior midfielder Jocelyn Blankenship and sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Leksan provide a core nucleus of returning players to lead the way for the Lions.

New players who will make an immediate impact in the lineup include freshmen Maddie Medved (MF), Jill Farley (D) and Lexi Frey (D) and junior transfer Morgan Hilby (F).

"The key for this weekend is coming away with two wins, coming out healthy and playing some pretty soccer," said Myers."
