Taylor Named WCC Player of the Week
Junior Callie Taylor scored a pair of game-winners last weekend, earning the season's first WCC Player of the Week honor.
LOS ANGELES - Callie Taylor scored the game-winning goals in each of LMU's opening weekend goals, leading the Lions to a 2-0 mark to start the season and earning the first West Coast Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week award for 2014.
The junior transfer who hails from Long Beach, scored the game-winner in Friday's 3-1 come-from-behind victory over New Mexico State. Trailing 1-0 early, the Lions scored three unanswered, including Taylor's header off a Jo Blankenship corner kick in the 59th minute.
On Sunday, she tapped in a cross from Brianne Medved at the 17-minute mark to give LMU a 1-0 advantage. The Lions would add an insurance goal in the second half, going on to shutout Cleveland State, 2-0. Taylor took three shots in the two games, all three on frame.
The Lions take their 2-0 record on the road this week, traveling to face a pair of Pac-12 schools in Oregon State (Friday, Aug. 29) and Oregon (Sunday, Aug. 31).
