LOS ANGELES - The Lions face their biggest challenge of the season this week, making the short trip up to Westwood on Friday, Sept. 7 to face top-ranked UCLA. The game, scheduled to kick off at 7:05 p.m. will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network. On Sunday, Sept. 9, LMU returns to Sullivan Field to host Idaho State at 11 a.m.

LIONS' LAST LINE
The Lions extended their win streak to four straight win a 2-0 shutout of CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Aug. 31... Brianne Medved and Tawni Martino scored first-half goals for LMU, which held a 10-4 shot advantage over the Roadrunners... On Sunday, Sept. 2 the Lions returned home to host then No. 11 Wisconsin, falling 4-2 to the Badgers... Trailing 4-0, Darien Pyka prevented the shutout with a goal in the 78th minute and Whitney Sharpe added a second goal with six minutes remaining...

INSIDE THE LIONS
This marks the third time in the last four seasons that LMU has won four of its first five games... The last time the Lions had a four-game wins streak was in 2010... Junior Darien Pyka has tallied at least one point in each of the last four games and now leads the squad with seven points on three goals and one assist... Freshman Madison Heilmann has added two goals and one assist for five points... Sophomore Brianne Medved has a pair of goals for four points while freshman Jocelyn Blankenship has one goal and a pair of assists for four points... In goal, junior Brittany Jagger has played every minute, making 14 saves while holding a 1.49 goals against average... The shutout of CSU Bakersfield was the 17th of her career, which ranks fourth in LMU's all-time record book... Jagger also now has 20 wins for her career, which ranks fifth in LMU's all-time record book... Tawni Martino's goal on Aug. 31 at CSU Bakersfield was the 13th of her two-plus year career, moving her into a tie for eighth in LMU's career record book... The Lions have started the same 11 players in all six games this season, including a pair of freshmen in Heilmann and Blankenship... The win over Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 19 was the first career victory for head coach Michelle Myers who takes the reigns of the program after serving as an assistant for the past 15 seasons... The golden-goal victory against the Titans moves the Lions to 21-20-42 all-time in overtime games... In a preseason poll, the Lions were picked to finish seventh in the highly competitive WCC... The nine-member league sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament in 2011...

LIONS VERSUS RANKED OPPONENTS
LMU has a 13-46-5 all-time record against teams ranked in the top 25... The Lions last win over a ranked opponent came on Aug 19, 2011 when they beat then No. 19 Texas, 3-1, in Texas... This marks the second time in program history that the Lions have faced a team ranked No. 1 in the nation... The first occurrence was Oct. 22, 1999 when LMU fell 4-0 to the No. 1 Santa Clara...

Lions Fall Just Short of Upset Bid Against No. 2 UCLA
The LMU women's soccer team entered Saturday's game against No. 2 UCLA in the hunt for its first ever win over a top-five opponent. A goal by Tawni Martino in the 59th minute put the Lions on track, but the Bruins responded with a trio of scores as LMU fell 3-1 at Sullivan Field.

HEAD-TO-HEAD VS. THE BRUINS
LMU in winless against UCLA in 11 all-time meetings... That record includes an 0-5-0 record in Westwood... The teams have met seven times when UCLA was ranked... The last meeting between the two teams came on Sept. 17, 2011 when then No. 2 UCLA earned a 3-1 win over LMU at Sullivan Field... The Lions held a brief 1-0 lead in the match, courtesy of a Tawni Martino goal in the 59th minute... The Bruins responded with three goals in a 12-minute span, including two by Sam Mewis...

THE UCLA BRUINS
No. 1 ranked UCLA is 4-0-0 on the season, scoring twice in each of their four matches thus far... The Bruins have allowed just one goal scored on them - the equalizer in their season-opener at Massachusetts, setting up Abby Dahlkemper's game-winner in the 52nd minute... Dahlkemper has two goals and one assist thus far, leading the Bruins in points with five... Zakiya Bywaters has also scored twice while four others have one goal each... In goal, Katelyn Rowland is a perfect 3-0-0 with three shutouts, five saves and a 0.00 GAA... The Bruins have peppered opponents with an average of 21.7 shots per game, nearly half of which have been on frame... UCLA was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 preseason poll... The Bruins earned 111 points and two first-place votes behind defending national champion Stanford, which earned 10 first-place votes and 120 points...

HEAD-TO-HEAD VS. THE BENGALS
Sunday's match between the Lions and Idaho State Bengals is the first all-time between the two programs...

THE IDAHO STATE BENGALS
Idaho State enters the week at 4-1-0 and will face CSU Bakersfield on Friday before making the trip to LMU on Sunday... The Bengals opened the season with a four-game win streak including a 3-2 overtime victory over North Dakota State, a 2-0 win over New Mexico State, a 4-0 shutout of Minot State and a 2-0 shutout of Idaho... Idaho State's lone loss was a 3-2 overtime decision against Boise State on Sept. 2... Rachel Strawn has six goals to lead the Bengals... Amanda Ellsworth has added two goals and a team-high three assists... In goal, Maria Dela Cruz and Sheridan Hapsic have split time nearly 50-50... The two have combined for a 0.98 GAA, three shutouts and 11 saves... ISU was picked to finish seventh (of 10) in the 2012 Big Sky preseason poll...

The Lions travel to Tucson, Ariz., to take part in the Arizona Cats Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona. On Friday, Sept. 14 LMU faces Arizona State at 5 p.m., then takes on host Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
