LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount women's soccer team dominated San Francisco this afternoon, winning 3-0 to pick up its first conference win of the year. The Lions outshot the Dons, 11-4, with eight of the shots on goal, while San Francisco did not get a single shot on goal. LMU (8-5-3, 1-2-1) will next face Saint Mary's on Sunday, while San Francisco (7-6-3, 1-3) will head north to play Pepperdine.
Whitney Temple scored LMU's first goal of the game. She took a pass from Tana Smothermon and launched a hard shot from approximately 15 yards out. While it looked like USF goalkeeper Stephanie Beall was going to make the save, the force of the shot allowed the ball to dribble through her legs and into the net. It was Temple's first goal of the season.
Sara Aldama scored her first career goal to give the Lions a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute. After she got the ball at midfield from Kylie Beren, the redshirt sophomore defender dribbled the ball up the field. No one from USF challenged her, so she blasted a beautiful shot from 25 yards out to the far post to add to the LMU lead.
Kelly Lewandowski added LMU's third goal of the game in the 89th minute. Jamie Bell passed a nice ball from the left side to a streaking Lewandowski. She was able to elude her defenders until Beall was the only thing between her and the net. The junior forward chipped the ball over Beall to give the Lions a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The LMU defense shut down San Francisco. All of USF's shots were off the face of the goal. Senior goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro did not have to make a single save to pick up her sixth win of the season in goal. Beall finished the game with five saves for USF.
Lori Sims led LMU with three shots, while Temple and Smothermon had two each. Shuree Hyatt made two shots for the Dons.
The Lions improve to 7-2-1 this season at home, and have three straight home games before finishing the season at San Diego.
