Garcia, Martino, McGovern Earn WCC All-Academic Honors
Nov. 10, 2011
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Personifying the true meaning of student-athlete, LMU women's soccer players Jaide Garcia, Tawni Martino and Cori McGovern were all named to the 2011 West Coast Conference women's soccer All-Academic Honorable Mention team. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team. This marks the second consecutive WCC All-Academic honor for both Garcia and McGovern. Garcia carries a 3.65 cumulative GPA and will graduate in the spring of 2012 with a degree in English. On the pitch, Garcia appeared in all 20 games for the Lions, starting 19, and was part of the defensive line that held a 1.25 goals against average. Martino, a sophomore, is majoring in management at LMU and currently holds a 3.33 cumulative GPA. Recently selected as a 2011 All-WCC honorable mention selection Martino led the Lions with four goals and two assists for 10 points this fall. McGovern, in her junior year at LMU, is a communications studies major with a 3.35 cumulative GPA. She appeared in all 20 games this fall, starting 19 in the Lions' midfield.
