Nov. 13, 2008

San Bruno, CA - Seven LMU women's soccer players were awarded all-conference honors as the West Coast Conference announced its annual postseason accolades on Wednesday. Lily Sorentino was named to the First Team, Amanda Lernor, Shannon Omahen and Tiffany Harrison were selected to the Second Team, and Allyssa Clark, Kim Feeney and Julie Gallaudet were honorable mention selections.

Sorentino (Santa Rosa, CA) tied the school single-season record with eight assists in 2008, half coming in conference play. She added one goal on the season, the game-winner against Cal State Northridge, and was second on the team overall with 10 points. Just a sophomore, Sorentino has already placed herself in a tie for fourth at LMU with 14 career assists. This is the second straight year that Sorentino has been recognized by the conference office, having earned Honorable Mention and All-Freshman Team honors last year.

A trio of defensive-minded Lions were named to the Second Team after helping LMU to a 0.83 goals-against-average during conference play. Lernor (Scottsdale, AZ), Omahen (Canyon Country, CA), and Harrison (Murrieta, CA) each started all seven WCC matches and were all in the top-five on the Lions in minutes played. Lernor also got it done on the offensive end, scoring her first career goal, the game-winner, at San Francisco. Harrison also was a force in both penalty areas. The junior scored two goals from the defensive midfield slot, netting back-to-back game-winners against UC Irvine and Harvard that earned her a spot on the Soccerbuzz.com Elite Team of the Week for September 9. For Harrison, this was her second consecutive selection to the Second Team and third accolade from the WCC overall, having been named to the freshman team in 2006. This is the first honor for both Lernor and Omahen.

Three players also represented LMU on the honorable mention list. Junior goalkeeper Allyssa Clark (Orange, CA) finished second in the conference with 95 saves while posting eight shutouts on the year, including three in conference play. Her 95 saves were the second-most ever in a season at LMU and her eight shutouts tied for third. She had an overall GAA of 1.02 but lowered that to 0.83 in the seven WCC games. Protecting the defense in front of Clark was Feeney (San Ramon, CA), who led the Lions in minutes played with 1720 in earning her third straight honorable mention selection. Making her first appearance on the All-WCC team was Gallaudet (Davis, CA). The sophomore led the Lions in scoring with five goals and 14 points overall. In conference play, she had two goals and three assists to lead the team, including both goals in LMU's first win over Santa Clara since 2000. Gallaudet also became the first Lion since 1999 to register two multiple-goal games in the same season, netting two goals each against Oral Roberts and Santa Clara.

The seven LMU players honored ties the school record for most in a season, set last year. LMU went 10-6-3 overall in 2008, finishing in sole possession of third place in the WCC at 5-2-0. For a complete list of all the WCC postseason award-winners, log on to www.wccsports.com.
