Senior, Freshman Earn NSCAA Regional Recognition
Whitney Sharpe and Jocelyn Blankenship were named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-West Region Third Team.
Dec. 4, 2012
This marks the first time since 2009 that the Lions have placed members on the NSCAA All-Region teams and the first time since 2004 that multiple Lions have been honored.
Sharpe was a key member of the Lions' defense the back line as an outside marking back. LMU had six shutouts on the season and allowed just 1.22 goals per game - allowing more than two goals to a single opponent just three times. The senior, who also earned All-WCC Second Team honors, also scored one goal and added a pair of assists on the season.
Blankenship had a breakout rookie season for LMU, scoring three goals and a team-high five assists to tie for the team lead of 11 points. She twice tallied both a goal and an assist in a single-game, while all three games she scored in resulted in LMU victories. Blankenship also earned All-WCC Freshman Team honors.
The Lions concluded the 2012 season with a 9-8-2 overall record and 3-5-0 WCC mark, good for sixth place in the highly competitive league that sends four teams into the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.
