Lions Finish First Tournament Of 2018 After Two Games On Sunday

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Loyola Marymount softball (1-3-1) completed its first tournament of the 2018 season after two games on Sunday. The Lions first faced off against Pittsburgh, which resulted in a 0-0 tie, and later matched up against Cal State Fullerton, dropping the contest 6-3. Freshman Delanie Wisz hit two homeruns in the final contest of the tournament for the Lions.

LMU stands at 1-3-1 on the season following the weekend's competition.

The first game of the day resulted in a 0-0 tie after an outstanding performance by LMU pitcher Hannah Bandimere who finished with 11 strikeouts and gave up just two hits in a full eight innings played. The Lions got seven hits on Pitt pitcher Kayla Harris and she tallied five strikeouts in the tie game.

The Titans started off strong in the second matchup, scoring four runs in the opening inning to take a commanding lead early on. They added another run in the second before the Lions got on the board for the first time in the fourth inning when Wisz homered to left field. Each team scored again in the fifth inning, with Brooke Christensen scoring on the RBI from Irma Sanchez as she singled to right field.

The Lions scored their final run of the game in the sixth as Wisz notched her second homerun of the game and the Titans finished the game with the 6-3 win.

LMU next takes the field next weekend at the Mary Nutter Invitational in Palm Springs, Calif.
