Lions Go 1-1 In First Day Of Mary Nutter Invitational

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Loyola Marymount softball team (2-4-1) competed in Day 1 of the Mary Nutter Invitational in Palm Springs on Saturday, going 1-1 on the day. Hannah Bandimere earned the win in the second matchup of the day vs. Weber State, as the Lions won 6-1, and she is now 2-1 on the season. Earlier in the day, LMU was defeated by Cal 8-0.

Weber State scored its one run of the game in the first inning on a throwing error. LMU also got on the board in the first as Alicia Brown singled through the left side earning the RBI and bringing Katie Manley home.

Maddison Flores homered to left field in the third inning to make it 2-1 Lions. Then in the fourth, Flores singled to second base to get the RBI, leading Irma Sanchez to score. LMU had a big fifth inning, starting off with the bases loaded and Molly Grumbo singling through the left side (RBI) as Delanie Wisz scored. This was followed by Lindsey Matoi singling to left center field (2 RBI) and driving home Andrea Gonzalez and Brown to make it 6-1 heading into the sixth, which would remain the final score.

Bandimere finished with four strikeouts in five innings played as she earned the win. Linnay Wilson finished the game for LMU and threw three strikeouts in two innings.



The Mary Nutter Invitational continues today as LMU takes on Arkansas at 5 p.m. The Lions round out the tournament with two games tomorrow against Utah at 8:30 a.m. and UC Santa Barbara at 1:30 p.m.
