LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount softball team (7-6-1) split with Weber State (6-9) in Sunday’s doubleheader, winning the first game and losing the second.

Hannah Bandimere picked up the win for the Lions in Game 1, and now has a 5-1 record on the season. She pitched the final two innings of the game and finished with two strikeouts, one hit and zero runs. Linnay Wilson pitched the first five innings for LMU, throwing seven strikeouts with three hits and one run allowed.

The first four innings of Game 1 were scoreless before Weber State’s Ashlyn Visser was driven home by a Sadie Blacker double to right center field in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Irma Sanchez singled to left center, sending Molly Grumbo home. Grumbo got on base with a bunt and stole second before scoring on Sanchez’s hit.

Sanchez had another huge hit to win it for LMU in the final inning with a walk off double down the right field line, driving in Maddison Flores to give the Lions a 2-1 victory.

Weber State was able to avenge the earlier loss as they defeated LMU 9-5 in Game 2. The action started early as the Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the first on an LMU error at second base. The Lions quickly bounced back, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the first as Alicia Brown hit a three-run homer with Sanchez and Lindsey Matoi on base.

Weber State scored one run in the second and another in the third before having a huge third inning with three total runs from two walks and a sacrifice fly to take a 7-3 lead. Visser homered for the Wildcats in the top of the sixth, also driving home Landi Hawker to make it 9-3.

The Lions got back on the board in the bottom of the sixth, as Andrea Gonzalez hit a ground-rule double, scoring Katie Manley on the play. Delanie Wisz later made it home on a wild pitch, but it would be the final LMU run of the day, as the Lions were unable to catch the Wildcats.

LMU travels to Fullerton, Calif. for the Judy Garman Classic March 1-3. The Lions will face off against Michigan, Florida, Cal Poly, Stanford and Fresno State throughout the weekend.
