FULLERTON, Calif. – The Loyola Marymount softball team competed in Day 1 of the Judi Garman Classic at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, March 1. The Lions first faced off against Michigan and later matched up against Florida, with both opponents being nationally ranked.
In Game 1, the Lions got on the board early with two-run homer by freshman Molly Grumbo in the second inning, who drove Andrea Gonzalez home on the play. No. 20 ranked Michigan recorded their first run in the third, scoring on an error. They struck again in the fifth inning, as a run was driven in on a single down the left field line. The game was tied up entering the bottom of the second, but Michigan was able to convert in the inning to take the win on a single to right center field to score a run. Bandimere was on the mound for LMU in the loss.
The No. 3 ranked softball program in the country, the Florida Gators, earned a 13-0 victory over LMU in Game 2 of the day. With the win, the Gators moved to 17-1 on the season, and they have now secured nine straight victories. WCC Pitcher of the Week Linnay Wilson pitched 3.2 innings for the Lions and tallied three strikeouts.
LMU returns to the field tomorrow for Day 2 of the Judi Garman Classic, taking on Cal Poly at 10 a.m.
