CLEARWATER, Fla. - The LMU softball team closed out play at the USF Under Armour Invitational with a 4-0 loss to Central Connecticut Sunday.

That final score left the Lions with a 2-3 tournament mark and a 6-9 record for the season.

Central Connecticut's Laura Messina tossed a four hitter, while also striking out three, sending LMU to its first shutout of the season.

Danielle Smith had a pair of hits for the Lions and Hannah Montalban and Stephanie Maciel had one apiece.

Molly Medeiros took the loss for the Lions as she gave up five hits and two runs, one earned, in four innings of work.

The Blue Devils pushed across one run in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Tessa Brown had three hits for CCSU while Nicole Springer added a two-run homer.

The Lions are back in action on Wednesday, playing a a pair of neutral site games against Toledo and Maine. They conclude their Florida trip with five games on Mar. 8-10 at the USF Under Armour Showcase.
