SAN DIEGO, Calif. - LMU fell to #25 Fresno State, 6-1, in the final game of the Aztec Classic this morning in San Diego. Tracy Cook drove in Kirsten Slouber in the top of the first inning, but the Lions could not hold off the Bulldogs.
LMU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Fresno State answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. With one out in the top of the second, Chelsie Tysdal singled and advanced to third on an error by the FSU rightfielder. However, the next two Lion batters struck out to end the threat.
Fresno State added a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits for the final 6-1 margin of victory.
The Lions managed just three hits in the game. Tiffany Pagano took the loss for the Lions, allowing four earned runs in 4.0 innings of work. She struck out six but walked eight. Krystal Kehr allowed one run in 2.0 innings of relief.
LMU falls to 8-9 on the season after facing a ranked team for the third time in five games. Fresno State improves 11-9 this season.
LMU will get just one day of rest before hosting a five day tournament at the brand new Smith Field. The tournament starts on Tuesday as the Lions host the University of Pennsylvania at noon. Tournament play continues through Saturday.
