Lions Sweep Doubleheader
LMU defeats Cal Poly 5-3, and 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif - The LMU softball team swept its doubleheader with Cal Poly on Saturday afternoon. Caylin Hornish was 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Lions to a 5-3 lead in game one. LMU scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth for a 3-2 extra inning win in game two. LMU improves to 5-4 with its fourth straight win.
Kayla Meeks allowed just one earned run in the first game of the doubleheader. She struck out four batters and allowed seven hits in 7.0 innings of work. Margo Pineda continued to hit well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Emily Foltz also had two hits for LMU with a double and an RBI.
The Lions pulled ahead early, scoring a run in the top of the first, but allowed the Mustangs to tie it in the bottom of the second. LMU went ahead for good, scoring two runs in the top of the third, and adding a run in the top of the fourth for a 4-1 lead. Cal Poly scored runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but the Lions added an insurance run in the top of the sixth.
The second game was a pitchers duel, as the game was scoreless through seven innings. Pineda's two run home run in the top of the eighth gave the Lions a 2-0 lead, but the Mustangs answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Tracy Cook drove home Foltz for the winning run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Lions will host Notre Dame in a doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon at the LMU Softball Field.
