LOS ANGELES - On senior day at Smith Field, LMU's graduating duo each tallied a hit in their final collegiate appearance, but the Lions would come up short in an 11-4 setback to Santa Clara Sunday.
The Lions close out the 2014 season with a 20-27 overall record and 1-13 West Coast Conference mark. Santa Clara improved to 10-31 overall and 5-7 in league play.
The Broncos did the most of their damage in the middle innings, posing a four-run second, three-run third and three-run fourth.
LMU's Megan von Behren opened the game's scoring with a solo home run in the first. But Santa Clara would respond with the second inning four spot. The Lions rallied to score two more in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by Amanda Dirks.
Trailing 10-3 in the fifth, LMU added a fourth run on a Sterling Shuster RBI-single that scored Harman. But the Lions would get no closer in their final outing of the season.
von Behren finished with two hits to lead the Lions while six others had one hit apiece. Andy Wellins (1-1) took the loss in her first career start. The rookie struck out two, but walked six and gave up six hits for seven runs in six innings of work.
