Softball Closes Out Season Saturday
The Lions won the WCC series, but BYU was victorious Saturday in the series final.
LOS ANGELES - Having already clinched the series victory over West Coast Conference champ BYU, the LMU softball team closed out the 2015 season with a 10-2, six-inning setback to the Cougars Saturday at Smith Field.
The Lions conclude the 2015 season with a 26-28 overall record and 8-7 WCC mark, good for a tie with San Diego for second place. With the league's automatic berth, BYU will advance to the NCAA Tournament field carrying a 39-12 overall mark and 13-2 WCC record.
The Cougars would go on to add three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth, while BYU ace McKenna Bull held the Lion battery to just four hits in her 34th win of the season.
Sabrina Tebou looked to start a rally in the sixth with a one-out double to center. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Alex Finie ground out. But Bull would get Courtney Moore to fly out to center to end the game.
Rachael Farrington took the loss in the pitching circle as seven Cougar hits accounted for seven runs, six earned, off the sophomore lefty in five innings. Andy Wellins and Stephanie Crist combined to pitch the sixth inning.
