Senior Day Victory
Junior Alex Finie had the game-winning hit and freshman Hannah Bandimere tossed a complete game.
LOS ANGELES - On Senior Day at Smith Field it was a junior and freshman who led the charge in sending off the LMU softball class of 2016 with a victory as the Lions edged Pacific, 2-1, Friday afternoon.
The Lions conclude the year with a 32-21 overall record and 10-5 West Coast Conference record. Pacific finishes 20-28 overall and 3-12 in WCC play.
LMU’s two runs came on one swing of the bat in the second inning as junior Alex Finie launched the 0-2 pitch over the left-center field fence. Sophomore Alicia Brown, who led off the inning with a double down the left field line, also scored on the play.
The rest of the work went to freshman pitcher Hannah Bandimere who fanned seven to go along with seven hits, one walk and one run allowed in seven complete innings.
After her battery gave her a two-run lead, Bandimere retired the next six straight. She surrendered three hits in the fifth, leading to Pacific’s lone run, but did not allow a runner past second in the final two frames. The rookie improved to 19-10 on the year with her 12th complete game.
Fine went 2-for-3 at the plate while Hannah Montalban and Brown added one hit each.
The Lions conclude their first season under Head Coach Sami Strinz-Ward by setting a program record with 106 doubles, while their .515 slugging percentage ranks second all time, and is just the second time a team has slugged over .500. In addition, the team total of 60 home runs is the third most in a single season (66 in 2004 and 61 in 2011).
