Tebou's Grand Slam Caps Off LMU's 7-4 Comeback Victory In NISC Opener

Greely, Colo. - In LMU softball's first postseason game since 2007, the Lions (29-23-1) earned a 7-4 comeback victory against the Northern Colorado Bears at their home field in Greely, Colo. Senior Sabrina Tebou smacked a grand slam to left-center in the bottom of the sixth, capping a major comeback for Loyola Marymount in which the Lions scored seven total runs in the inning to take a 7-4 lead.

UNC's Valerie Vidal had a shutout on the mound going into the sixth inning. The Lions made a pitching change from Hannah Bandimere to Linnay Wilson in the third, and Wilson responded by hurling 4.2 solid innings with eight strikeouts. The freshman struck out two in the seventh inning to close the door.

Freshman Andrea Gonzalez hit a sixth-inning double to get the momentum moving in LMU's favor, driving in freshman Molly Grumbo to cut the UNC lead to 4-1. Senior Alicia Brown followed with a two-run single to left field, leading freshman Delanie Wisz and Gonzalez home. Tebou then hit the no-doubter to cap the rally. Grumbo landed on base after bunting and beating out the throw to first and Wisz notched a single next to begin the Lions' successful inning.



The Lions will face South Dakota State (25-16) tomorrow in the winner's bracket. The two teams will match up in the semifinal round at 2 p.m. PT (3 p.m. local, MT). South Dakota State earned a 11-1 win over Colorado State in day one of the NISC, ending the game in the fifth inning due to the mercy-run rule.
