Busy Week Begins at Home

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - A busy week of action begins Wednesday for the LMU softball team as the Lions host Howard University in a doubleheader at Smith Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon. The Lions will then head to Riverside on Saturday and Sunday, playing four games in the Highlander Classic.

NOTES AND NUGGETS
• The Lions went 1-3 in four games last week, capping the four-game home stand with an 8-0, 5-inning win over Bakersfield.
• Four Lions continue to hit better than .300, including Amanda Dirks who leads LMU with a .419 average, 12 RBIs and .500 on-base percentage. The sophomore has also drawn a team-high seven walks. Alex Finie is batten g.377 with a team-high 20 hits, Nicole Kasier has hit .333 in nine games played and freshman Rachel Williams has come alive, hitting .308.
Stephanie Maciel leads LMU with four home runs while freshman Lindsey Matoi launched her first long ball in game-winning fashion, providing the final two runs in a seven-run fifth inning that secured the victory over Bakersfield.
• In the pitching circle, Andy Wellins is holding batters to a .275 average.
• Collectively, the Lions carry a .971 fielding percentage while their opponents carry a .960 fielding percentage.
