Softball Hosts LMU Invitational I

Lions host the LMU Invitational I Thur-Sat.

LOS ANGELES - The LMU softball team returns home from a week-long trip to Florida to begin a 16-game home stand on Thursday, March 6 with the LMU Invitational I.

The Lions will play five games in the round-robin tournament, while 13 total games will be contested at Smith Field from March 6-9. Competing teams include fellow West Coast Conference member, Saint Mary's, Belmont, Brown and Lehigh.

LMU brings an even 8-8 record into its first appearance at Smith Field in the 2014 season. The Lions went 4-2 in Florida, including a 3-2 record at the USF Under Armour Invitational. Sydney Gouveia (8-1) was the driving force for LMU last week, earning second straight WCC Pitcher of the Week honor after going 3-0 with 39 strikeouts and a 0.32 ERA.

The sophomore hurler led LMU to a 1-0 shutout of Kennesaw State, a 2-1 win over Temple and a 5-1 win over Central Arkansas. She followed the tournament performance with a 7-1 win over Maine on Monday.

Meghan Harman continues to lead the LMU battery with a .355 average. Freshman Ander Lopez is hitting .303 with 10 hits, including two double and a triple, to go along with four RBIs.

LMU opens play on Thursday at noon versus Lehigh. Admission to all games during the LMU Invitational I is free of charge.

PARKING NOTICE: On Saturday, March 8, campus roads will be CLOSED from 7:45-9:30 am due to a 5K run. Fans arriving on the LMU campus via the Lincoln Blvd. entrance MUST arrive prior to 7:30 am. Pedestrian access will remain available via both Lincoln Blvd. as well as the 80th street entrance.
