SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Sophomore RHP Sydney Gouveia continued her hot streak in the pitching circle, going 4-0 with an 0.54 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 26 innings of work to earn her third straight West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honor. She recorded double digit strikeouts in her three compete games, giving her nine such outings on the year.
Gouveia began the week with a 13-strikeout, 8-inning, 3-2 win over Lehigh (March 6) at the LMU Invitational. She surrendered two earned runs in the game - the only earned runs she would allow all week. The following day (March 7), she fanned a season-high 17 batters in her seventh shutout of the season, a 5-0 win over Brown.
Against Belmont (Match 8), the sophomore fanned 11 while surrendering one hit and one unearned run in a 5-1 LMU victory. She concluded the week by striking out nine in four innings in a second meeting with Brown (March 9), before giving way to Rachael Farrington. The Lions would win 8-0 in six innings as their current win streak stretched to seven straight. This is the third straight weekly honor for Gouveia, who owns a 12-1 record on the season with a 0.60 ERA. Gouveia now has 133 strikeouts in 82 innings of work.
