Sam Fischer Named PCSC Player of the Week

Los Angeles - LMU freshman Sam Fischer has been named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The award is the first of Fischer's career and she is the third LMU player to be honored this season, joining Chelsie Tysdal (co-Player of the Week for February 9) and Corie Goodman (Pitcher of the Week for February 23). Fischer (Simi Valley, CA) led LMU with a .462 (6-for-13) batting average with two home runs and four RBI in four games last weekend's Courtyard by Marriott L.A. Westside Tournament, at which LMU went 2-2. Fisher recorded at least one hit in three of the four games and reached base safely in all four games, posting a .923 slugging pct. and a .500 on-base average. In her first career start as a pitcher last Friday against Utah Valley, Fischer helped herself at the plate going 3-for-4 with with her first career two-homer game and four RBI despite suffering a 6-5 loss. The next day, she went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in a 5-3 win over future-PCSC member Seattle. Fischer capped the week with a relief appearance in the circle, picking up a save in LMU's second win over Seattle. Fischer has now taken over the team lead in batting average at .333 and on-base percentage at .383. She is also leading the team with 25 hits and three stolen bases and is tied for the team lead with four doubles. LMU (11-13) travels cross-country this week for the USF-Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, FL. The Lions take on Jacksonville at 11 a.m. and then face the hosts South Florida at 4 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the Lions will play against UMass at 11 a.m., followed by Central Michigan at 1 p.m. The tournament concludes at 10 a.m. on Sunday against Hofstra. All times are Eastern Daylight Time.
