Shuster Named WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Sterling Shuster was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Shuster led LMU by hitting .500 (10-for-20), with one home run, 10 RBIs, four runs, a .650 slugging percentage and .565 on base percentage in seven games last week. The junior second baseman began the week with an RBI single in LMU's 6-3 win over Harvard in the Lions' opening game of the LMU Invitational II. She followed that with a 4-for-4 performance in a 9-8 come-from-behind win over Canisius. Her RBI-single in the first inning helped the Lions take a 3-2 lead early. She would add a two-RBI single in the fourth as the Lions battled back from an 8-4 deficit.
Shuster went 1-for-3 in the Lions' third straight tournament win, a 3-2 decision against Bethune-Cookman. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a second meeting with Canisius before her biggest game of the week, a 2-for-4 performance, including a three-run home run and a two-RBI single that led LMU to a commanding 9-3 win over Dartmouth. She added 20 putouts and 17 assists over the week as the Lions went 4-3 in tournament play. Her big week at the plate moved her to the team leader in batting average (.350). She is also second in hits (21) and RBIs (17).
