LOS ANGELES - Fifth-year senior Darcy Pagnini hit .556 from March 22-28 to net her first career Pacific Coast Softball Conference Coastal Division Player of the Week award, and LMU's second in a row, the conference office announced late Monday. Pagnini's award comes on the heels of sophomore Sam Fischer and senior Melissa Dykema earning weekly awards the week before as the Lions have now taken home three of the six Player of the Week honors thus far in 2010.
A catcher/third baseman, Pagnini (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) went 5-for-9 with three doubles and two runs scored in three games last week. She finished the week with a .889 slugging percentage. In the Lions' 7-1 win over UNLV on Friday, Pagnini went 2-for-4 with a run scored to help extend LMU's win streak to nine games, its longest in three seasons. In Sunday's doubleheader against No. 5 UCLA, Pagnini was a combined 3-for-5 to extend her hitting streak to seven games. All three of her hits against the Bruins were two-baggers, putting her into sixth place on LMU's career doubles list with 34.
Pagnini has collected six multi-hit games during her seven-game hit streak, and is hitting .565 (13-for-23) with a home run, four doubles and eight RBI during that span. For the season, Pagnini is tied for the team lead with a .355 batting average. She also has five home runs, five doubles and 14 RBI.
Coming off a 10-game home stand in which they went 8-2, the Lions head out on the road for the next 11 contests. The non-conference season comes to a close this week in St. George, Utah, where LMU will face BYU twice and Cal State Bakersfield once at the 1st Annual Pre-Conference Tournament.
