LOS ANGELES - West Coast Conference softball will take place at Smith Field for the first time ever this weekend as the Lions play host to Pacific in a three-game series. Action begins Saturday with a noon doubleheader, followed by a single game Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Lions (19-17, 0-3) opened the first-ever season of WCC play last week, dropping a three-game series at Saint Mary's. The Tigers (13-22, 2-1) opened league play against Santa Clara, taking two of three from the Broncos.

The Lions and Tigers have met just three times in program history - once each in the 1999, 2001 and 2002 seasons. LMU won the first-ever meeting, 2-1, while Pacific won the ensuing two meetings, 8-0 and 11-6.

This year's teams are quite similar statistically. Pacific's Taylor Petty leads the WCC with a .371 batting average, while LMU's Meghan Harman ranks third, hitting at a .357 clip. LMU hits a collective .248 while the Tigers have a team average of .276. In the pitching circle, the Lion staff holds a combined 3.09 ERA compared to the Tigers' 4.37 ERA.

Along with her top three ranking in batting average, Harman leads the league in slugging percentage (.714), runs scored (21), home runs (9) and total bases (60). She also ranks second in on base percentage (.466) and RBIs (22).
