WCC Play Continues at USD

LOS ANGELES - LMU softball heads back out on the road this week for a three-game West Coast Conference series at San Diego. The Lions (24-17, 2-1 WCC) and Toreros (14-24, 0-3 WCC) begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 (12 p.m., 2 p.m.), followed by a single game Sunday, April 17 at noon.

The Lions are coming off of a huge 2-1 series victory at WCC preseason favorite BYU to open conference play last week. The Toreros, meanwhile, dropped a three-game set to Saint Mary's at their own USD Softball Complex.

SERIES HISTORY VS USD
With records dating back to the 1983 season, LMU holds an 83-69 series record against San Diego. The teams have been fairly evenly matched in recent years as the Lions are 10-8 in 18 games contested over the last five seasons. San Diego won last year's three-game WCC series in Los Angeles, 2-1. LMU won the opener 1-0, but then fell 4-2 and 3-1.

INSIDE THE LIONS
• The Lions opened WCC play with a huge 2-1 series victory at preseason favorite BYU. LMU dropped game one, 4-0, but rebounded to win the final two, 9-4 and 5-1.
• Junior outfielder Amanda Dirks was named WCC Player of the Week on April 11 following her performance against the Cougars. She hit .400 with three home runs, one double, four runs scored, eight RBI and a 1.4000 slugging percentage.
Alicia Brown had three triples in the 5-1, series finale against BYU, matching the LMU single-game record set by Kristen Slobber in 2007.
• The team bats .314 with six players hitting over .300. They also collectively have 216 runs, 344 hits, 82 doubles, 47 home runs, 193 RBI, a .519 slugging percentage and .393 on-base percentage. All of those marks are tops in the WCC.
• Individually, senior outfielder Meghan von Behren leads the WCC with her .440 batting average, 62 hits, 31 runs scored and 14 stolen bases.
• Also hitting over .300 for LMU are Alicia Brown (.405), Shianne Ybarra (.350), Stephanie Maciel (.328), Amanda Dirks (.336) and Stephanie Crist (.305).
Alicia Brown leads the WCC with 14 doubles and is second on the team lead with eight home runs to rank second in the WCC with a .733 slugging percentage.
Meghan von Behren had a season-long 21-game reached base streak from Feb. 20 through Mar. 18. She has failed to reach base just three times in 41 games this season and is currently on an 11-game reached base/hit streak.
• After leading the nation in doubles per game for a stretch earlier this year, the Lions currently rank second with 2.00 per game.
• LMU is also ranked 47th in team batting average (.314), 26th in home runs per game (1.15) and 21st in slugging percentage (.519).
• The Lions' pitching staff holds a combined 3.80 ERA. Junior Rachael Farrington is 12-6 with 10 complete games, two shutouts, one save and a 3.23 ERA. Freshman Hannah Bandimere is 12-9 with nine complete games, one shutout, 87 strikeouts and a 3.53 ERA.
• LMU held a season-long six-game win streak from Feb. 28 through Mar. 11. The streak began with an 8-3 upset of then No. 20 ranked Fresno State.
• Sophomore Alicia Brown earned her first career WCC Player of the Week honor on March 21. She hit .464 with a .531 on base percentage and 1.036 slugging percentage in nine games that week. She went 13-for-28 at the plate, including four doubles and four home runs. She knocked in seven runs and scored eight times. She also drew four walks and made 13 putouts with 25 assists and zero errors in the field.
• LMU was picked third in the 2016 WCC Preseason Coaches Poll. Alicia Brown, Amanda Dirks and Rachael Farrington were all named to the All-WCC Preseason Team.
