Key Series Versus San Diego On Tap
Sitting two games back in the PCSC standings with eight games to go, the LMU softball team hosts a key series against San Diego Saturday and Sunday at Smith Field.

LOS ANGELES - Sitting two games back in the PCSC standings with eight games to go, the LMU softball team (27-20, 10-6 PCSC) hosts a key series against San Diego (24-21, 6-10 PCSC) Saturday and Sunday at Smith Field. Each day's doubleheader begins at noon.
INSIDE THE LIONS
The Lions begin this final stretch of PCSC play still eying the 2013 PCSC title... BYU leads the league standings with a 12-4 mark while LMU is second with a 10-6 record... Both teams have eight games remaining on their respective PCSC slates... LMU follows its series against USD by hosting Utah Valley on May 4-5... BYU closes things out by hosting CSU Bakersfield and Saint Mary's... The Lions last took to the field on April 6-7 at BYU, splitting the four-game series with the Cougars... LMU won the first day's doubleheader, 8-2 and 5-0, then dropped the final two games, 9-4 and 11-0... At the plate, Hannah Montalban leads all batters with a .376 average... The freshman is one of four players hitting over .300... Also on that list are Meghan Harman (.344), Skylar Segura (.336) and Sterling Shuster (.307)... Montalban also leads the team with 13 doubles while Shuster is a close second with 12... Harman has a team-best eight home runs while Stephanie Crist follows closely with seven... In all, 10 different players have hit at least one long ball on the year... Segura is also ranked among the nation's best, coming in at No. 4 in sacrifice hits per game (0.36)... In the pitching circle, freshman Sydney Gouveia has recorded 209 strikeouts in 131.1 innings pitched... She currently ranks No. 3 in the LMU single-season record book for strikeouts while her 11.1 strikeouts per seven innings is good for No. 4 in the nation... She also ranks 18th in total strikeouts (209) and 24th in shutouts (6)... She ranks No. 2 in the PCSC with a 1.76 ERA... Dana Walduksy has also come on strong in recent outings as her ERA continues to fall... As a staff, the Lions are allowing just 2.44 earned runs per game...

With two weekends of play left in the 2013 regular-season, this four-game PCSC series puts the second place Lions against the sixth place Toreros... Sitting two games back of leader BYU, every game is a must win for LMU, though the Cougars would also have to drop games down the stretch for LMU to move back in contention for the PCSC title... San Diego has gone an even 4-4 in its last eight PCSC games, splitting two four-game series with CSU Bakersfield and Utah Valley... LMU has won six of its last eight games, including a four-game sweep of Saint Mary's and a 2-2 split with BYU...
INSIDE THE ALL-TIME SERIES
LMU holds a 79-63 advantage in the all-time series with San Diego... That record includes a 37-25 mark at home... recent history has been a fairly even battle between the two squads... San Diego swept the four-game series in 2010 before LMU returned the favor the following season... Last spring, the teams split the series in San Diego, 2-2, with three shutout scores and one extra-inning affair...
