Softball Travels to Saint Mary's
The Lions face off against the Gaels in a key three-game WCC series.
LOS ANGELES - Six West Coast Conference games remain on the 2016 slate for LMU softball, beginning this weekend with a crucial three-game series at Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif. The Lions (28-19, 6-3 WCC) and Gaels (18-23-1, 5-4 WCC) start play with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon. The series concludes Sunday with a single contest at noon.
At 6-3 in WCC play, the Lions sit just behind BYU in the league standings. The Cougars are 4-2 in WCC play with nine games remaining. BYU's two losses both came at the hands of LMU.

SERIES HISTORY VS SAINT MARY'S
In records dating back to 1989, LMU holds a 55-34 all-time record against Saint Mary's. The teams have met every season since 1994. Last year, LMU took two-of-three from the Gaels. The closely contested series saw two games go extra innings and but LMU wins were by a single run. In 2014 SMC swept the three-game series while in 2013, LMU swept four straight.
INSIDE THE LIONS
LMU swept a three-game WCC series against Santa Clara last week, winning by scores of 7-5, 8-0 (5 innings) and 8-0 ( 5 innings).
Alex Finie had three doubles in the series, including the 96th of the season for the collection LMU team, which broke the previous team season record of 95, set in 2007. The 2007 squad achieved that mark in 75 games while this 2016 squad hit 96 in their 47th game.
The Lions bat .312 with five players hitting over .300. They also collectively have 246 runs, 385 hits, 96 doubles, 54 home runs, 222 RBI, a .521 slugging percentage and .390 on-base percentage. All of those marks are tops in the WCC.
LMU has ranked among the top of the national list in doubles per game all season long, and once again claims the top spot in games played through Apr. 28. They average 2.04 per game. LMU is also ranked 49th nationally in team batting average (.312), 25th in home runs per game (1.15) and 20th in slugging percentage (.521).
Individually, senior outfielder Meghan von Behren leads the WCC with her .440 batting average, 70 hits, 38 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.
Also hitting over .300 for LMU are Alicia Brown (.385), Shianne Ybarra (.349), Stephanie Maciel (.324) and Amanda Dirks (.321).
Alicia Brown leads the WCC with 17 doubles and is third on the team lead with eight home runs to rank third in the WCC with a .700 slugging percentage. Brown needs just one more double to match LMU's single-season record of 18, held by Darcy Pagnini (2008).
The Lions' pitching staff holds a combined 3.65 ERA. Junior Rachael Farrington is 13-7 with 12 complete games, three shutouts, one save and a 2.98 ERA. Freshman Hannah Bandimere is 15-10 with 10 complete games, two shutouts, 101 strikeouts and a 3.57 ERA.
Junior outfielder Amanda Dirks was named WCC Player of the Week on April 11 following her performance against the Cougars. She hit .400 with three home runs, one double, four runs scored, eight RBI and a 1.4000 slugging percentage.
Alicia Brown had three triples in the 5-1, series finale against BYU (Apr. 9), matching the LMU single-game record set by Kristen Slobber in 2007.
Sophomore Alicia Brown earned her first career WCC Player of the Week honor on March 21. She hit .464 with a .531 on base percentage and 1.036 slugging percentage in nine games that week. She went 13-for-28 at the plate, including four doubles and four home runs. She knocked in seven runs and scored eight times. She also drew four walks and made 13 putouts with 25 assists and zero errors in the field.
LMU was picked third in the 2016 WCC Preseason Coaches Poll. Alicia Brown, Amanda Dirks and Rachael Farrington were all named to the All-WCC Preseason Team.
