LOS ANGELES - LMU swept its first tripleheader since March 13, 1999, beating Northern Colorado, Canisius, and Bethune-Cookman on the final day of the 2011 Marina International Hotel Showcase at Smith Field. The 2018 NISC marks LMU softball’s first postseason action since 2007 when the program won the PCSC Championship and earned the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Lions won their first game in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, gaining their first postseason victory as they eliminated the 11-time national champions, UCLA.

LMU finished the regular season second in the West Coast Conference with an overall record of 28-23-1 while going 11-3 in conference play to earn the team's most wins in WCC history. The Lions were strongly represented in conference honors, as head coach Sami Strinz-Ward was named Coach of the Year, junior Hannah Bandimere earned Co-Pitcher of the Year and freshman Maddison Flores was selected as Defensive Player of the Year. Bandimere and senior Alicia Brown were also named to the All-WCC First Team, while Flores, freshman Andrea Gonzalez and senior Sabrina Tebou were selected to the Second Team. Freshmen Molly Gumbo, Linnay Wilson and Delanie Wisz also earned All-WCC honorable mention.

This is the second year of the NISC tournament, which features 17 teams including eight that have won 30 games or more during the 2018 season and six teams that finished second or better during the regular season in their respective conferences.

Along with Northern Colorado, UNLV, Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas are each also hosting in the first-round regionals. Each double-elimination regional concludes play on either Friday, May 18 or Saturday, May 19. The Championship round, also double-elimination, is slated to begin Wednesday, May 23 at a host site to be determined.
