LOS ANGELES - As the dust settles on the conclusion of her first year at the helm of the LMU Softball program, Head Coach Sami Strinz-Ward looks ahead to next year with the signing of two-way standout Maddie Rawl.

Rawl will join infielder Amanda Gjertsen and catcher Katie Manley in Strinz-Ward’s 2017 recruiting class. Gjersten and Manley committed to LMU in November 2015.

“Bringing Maddie in from Texas is a great move for us,” said Strinz-Ward. “She has a tremendous upside as a pitcher and she will be a brand new look to these California hitters that we generally face.”

The right-handed pitcher, and batter, prepped at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas, a town approximately 30 miles west of Houston. She wrapped up her senior season by leading the Spartans to a 29-11 overall record and 10-3 district record.

Rawl was an All-District selection and Academic All-District selection at Seven Lakes. She also played for the Texas Impact Gold club team and attended the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Nationals with the squad. This past fall, she moved on to compete with the Houston Power.

“What I really like about Maddie is that she is feisty and she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder,” Strinz-Ward added. “The recruiting process is a crazy one now a days and when you find a pitcher and hitter like Maddie who feels that she has been overlooked and has something to prove, then we have the necessary fuel in the athlete to take her game to the next level. I expect Maddie to contribute immediately to our pitching staff.”
