Fischer Set to Compete for Team USA This Summer
LMU softball alum Sam Fischer will compete for Team USA in 2014, including the World Cup of Softball in Irvine, Calif.

OKLAHOMA CITY - LMU softball alum Sam Fischer '12 was named to the 2014 USA Softball WOmen's National Team as announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball. Following a selection camp and series of exhibition games, the 17-person roster will regroup next month for an exhibition game and the General Tire World Cup of Softball July 7-13 in Irvine, Calif.
Fischer, LMU softball's first-ever All-American, was also a member of the 2012 Team USA squad following her senior campaign in a Lion uniform.
The Simi Valley, Calif., native concluded her final season at LMU leading all NCAA Division I players with her .492 batting average. She also led the nation in on-base percentage (.665).
Fischer totaled 23 home runs and 59 RBIs in 2012 - setting new Pacific Coast Softball Conference and LMU single-season marks for batting average and home runs and tying the single-season RBI record. During her career, she was a two-time PCSC Coastal Division Player of the Year honor and four time first team All-PCSC honoree. She was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-West Region second team and the NFCA All-American second team.
Fischer sits atop the LMU career charts for batting average (.387); home runs (65); doubles (51); RBI (172); runs scored (184); total bases (494); slugging percentage (.784); on-base average (.494); and walks (127).
As a member of the 2012 National Team, Fischer helped Team USA in winning the World Cup of Softball. She appeared in four of Team USA's six games throughout the tournament, going a combined 6-for-11 (.545) with two doubles, one home run and six RBIs. She had an RBI-single in USA's 8-0, tournament-opening game against Puerto Rico, then blasted a three-RBI home run in a 9-0 win over Canada. She tallied a pair of hits in the USA's 2-1 win over the Netherlands, before finishing with a second straight 2-for-3 showing in the title
In preparation for the 2014 ISF Women's World Championships, August 15-24, 2014 in Haarlem, Netherlands, the 2014 Women's National Team will compete in exhibition games as well as three tournaments that include the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, Calif July 7-13, the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada July 15-21 and Italian Softball Week in Azzano, Italy August 6-10.
