IRVINE, Calif. - Capping a perfect 7-0 run with a 5-2 win over Canada on Sunday, Team USA reclaimed the World Cup of Softball title at the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX held at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif., from July 7-13.

LMU alum Sam Fischer '12 appeared in six of the seven games for Team USA, collecting three hits and a pair of walks.

This marks Fischer's second run as a member of Team USA after also donning her country's red, white and blue uniform in 2012.

Team USA opened tournament play with a 5-0 shutout of Venezuela and a 7-0, 5-inning blanking of Mexico. Next up was a 13-1, 5-inning victory over the Phillippines, followed by a 5-3 win over Canada. An 8-1, 5-inning win over Japan and a 14-0, 4-inning shutout of Chinese Taipei set up the championship game between Team USA and Canada on Sunday. Team USA took a 4-0 lead through five innings and held on for the 5-2 victory.

Up next for Team USA is the Canadian Open Fast Pitch Invitational in Surrey, B.C. July 15-21. The team will get short break before reuniting in Waldorf, Md. for an exhibition series, after which they will head to Azzano, Italy for Italian Softball Week. All of these events, including the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX, are in preparation for the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championships, which is August 12-24 in Haarlem, Netherlands.
