Lions Split Pair of Matches on First Day in Arizona

Playing the first of two days of competition in Arizona on Friday, LMU beach volleyball (3-1) split a pair of matches. The Lions opened the day with a 3-2 setback at the hands of Washington before rebounding to defeat New Mexico, 4-1.

The Lions managed victories on courts four and five against the Huskies, as Sara Kovac/Jessie Prichard topped Natalie Robinson/Anna Crabtree, 21-12, 21-9, at court four. Bozena Culo/Emma Doud also finished in the win column at #5, topping Chloe Newton/Kara Bajema, 21-11, 21-13.

In the second match of the day against New Mexico, LMU won on every court below the top spot. Veronica Nederend/Maddie Leiphardt topped Yasmin Tan/Chloe Crappell, 21-12, 21-13 at #2 in the order. Kovac and Prichard won a hard-fought, 21-16, 22-20 match at #3, while Kekai Whitford/Chloe Reinig dispatched Emily Nenninger/Carly Beddingfield, 21-16, 21-16 on court #4. Finally, Culo/Doud turned in a perfect day of play by way of a 21-13, 21-12 win on court five.

LMU will continue play on Saturday, playing the host Arizona Wildcats before traveling to Grand Canyon University for a match against the Lopes. The match at Arizona is scheduled for 11 a.m., while the contest at GCU will begin at 6 p.m.
