Los Angeles, Calif. - In their first competition of the year, the Lions of LMU faced two top-5 teams in No. 3 USC and No. 4 Florida State. Despite being outmatched against both teams, the Lions, in only their second year of sand volleyball competition, stayed competitive throughout play. Amber Mirabello and Hannah Tedrow defeated Sam Hirschmann and Sydney Seau of host school USC to record the Lion's sole victory of the weekend (21-18, 21-19 at No. 5). Florida State went undefeated as they recorded victories over both LMU (5-0) and USC (3-2). USC went 1-1 as they defeated LMU (4-1) but lost to Florida State (3-2). In the inaugural competition at USC's new on-campus Merle Norman Stadium, the team of Felicia Arriola and Kenna Crouse, playing out of the No. 1 position, recorded a total of 47 kills on the day.
