Beach Volleyball Plays Bakersfield, Vanguard To Open Season

Feb. 21, 2018

LMU beach volleyball (0-0) will head to Huntington Beach to play CSU Bakersfield (0-0) and Vanguard (0-1) in the first games of the season this Saturday. The Lions will face the Roadrunners at 10:00 a.m. before competing against Vanguard at 2:00 pm.

The DiG Magazine Preseason Poll for beach volleyball was also released this week, as LMU opens the 2018 campaign sporting the #17 overall ranking.

The Lions were picked to finish third in the preseason poll, voted on by WCC coaches, behind defending NCAA National Runner-Up Pepperdine, and Saint Mary's. The team will be led by 2017 WCC Freshman of the Year, Savannah Slattery, and sophomore Jessie Prichard. The pair, who are preseason All-WCC picks, also garnered All-WCC honors this past year.

When LMU and Bakersfield met last year, the Lions came out victorious, with a 5-0 sweep against the Roadrunners, who finished their 2017 season 3-17. This will be the first time LMU will face-off against Vanguard in its inaugural season, with the opposing Lions coming off of a 5-0 loss to Concordia University.

Following this weekend's play, the Lions will travel to Tucson, Ariz. to face the University of Washington, University of New Mexico, University of Arizona, and Grand Canyon University in a series of match-ups taking place on March 2nd (LMU vs. UW, UNM) and March 3rd (LMU vs. U of A, GCU).
