LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU sand volleyball duo of Litara Keil and Betsi Metter will represent LMU and head to Gulf Shores, Ala. from May 2-4 for the 2014 AVCA Sand Volleyball National Championships. The duo will open pool play on Friday at 11 a.m. CT when they take on Aigner-Swesey/Tordorovic of Long Beach State in the first of four scheduled matches.
The top two finishers from each pool (four teams) will be seeded into Sunday's 16-team single elimination bracket. Ten pairs from the team championship squads will advance automatically to Sunday's championship bracket (top pair from all six squads and the #2 pair from Final Four), joining those teams who are still alive after pool play. The last two positions will be determined by a play in on Saturday afternoon. First round matches in the pairs championship will start at 8 a.m. CT on Sunday, May 4.
The trip to Gulf Shores, Ala. will be the second in as many years for Keil, who represented LMU with Felicia Arriola last year. Metter and Keil fell to their opening-round opponents from Long Beach on March 7 in a close three-set match, 21-13, 12-21, 15-7.
