Betsi Metter, teamed with partner Kelley Larsen (Jamul, Calif.), will begin play at the U23 World Championships on Tuesday. The competition, held in Myslowice, Poland, will run from June 10-15.
Including Metter and Larsen, USAV has sent five beach volleyball teams to the second-annual tournament.
The event will feature pool play followed by single-elimination knockout rounds. The U.S. has one team each entered into the men's and women's main draw, while one men's team and two women's teams, including Metter and Larsen, will have to play qualifying matches to advance to the main draw.
The returning team of Alex Jones (Sunnydale, Calif.) and Kyle Stevenson (Santa Monica, Calif.) will be in the men's main draw of the championship, while newcomers Clay Paullin (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Skyler McCoy (Long Beach, Calif.) will compete in the qualifying bracket.
On the women's side, Lara Dykstra (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Jace Pardon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) will open in the main draw, while the team of Sara Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif.) will begin in the qualifiers.
Metter, a three-time WCC Defensive Player of the Year on the hard court, earned All-American honors earlier this year en route to reaching the Final Four of the 2014 AVCA Sand Volleyball Pairs Championship while teamed with LMU upcoming-senior Litara Keil.
