LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
LMU volleyball players Betsi Metter and Litara Keil were named to the U21 USA Beach National Training Team, it was announced by USA Volleyball earlier this week. The duo are amongst a group of 14 stellar athletes competing to survive a cut that will shorten the list to 9-12 athletes in middle to late July. At that point, all athletes on the final roster will be expected to play in the High Performance Championships on July 21 and 22 in Hermosa Beach, Calif. before USA Volleyball names the pairs teams that will represent the United States at the World Championships.
No stranger to USA Beach National Team play, Metter has been involved with the program for the last four years, most recently serving on the U21 Training Team last year. Prior to last year, the native of Phoenix, Ariz. spent two years on the U19 squad. Keil, who recently completed her freshman year at LMU, is taking her inaugural steps with USA Beach Volleyball this summer. An integral piece to LMU's court and sand volleyball programs, Keil had never played beach volleyball prior to coming to LMU in the fall. The pair of Lions will train 2-3 times per week with the U21 team, including working with the elite U26 squad during practices.
