Lions Sit Third Following First Day of Beach Cup

MALIBU, Calif. - The LMU swimming team sits third after one day and six events, including diving, at the 2013 Beach Cup being hosted by Pepperdine University at the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. San Diego sits atop the standings with 211 points, followed by Fresno State (205), LMU (171) and Pepperdine (70).

LMU's top finish came in the 200 individual medley where freshman Kristen Clarno placed second in a time of 2:07.84. Fresno State's Alex Madsen won the race in 2:06.72, but LMU did manage to place a second swimmer in the top-five as Stephanie Hess took fourth in a career-best 2:11.65. Kristen Brennand also earned a top-10 finish with a sixth-place finish at 2:12.44.

The Lions finished third in all four of the other swimming events, including the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay. LMU's "B" relay placed third in the 200 relay, finishing ahead of the LMU "A" with times of 1:47.95 and 1:49.42, respectively. The 800 relay saw the Lions finish with a mark of 7:52.23. USD and Fresno State's "A" relays finished 1-2 in each of the relay events.

Angelina Prat and Mary Kate Short finished in the top-five of the 500 freestyle, with Prat placing third in a career-best time of 5:03.37. Keenan Lineback of San Diego won the race in 5:01.05 while Short finished fifth in a season-best 5:10.64. In a tight race, senior Camille Hopp managed to finish third in the 50 freestyle. The sprint saw Fresno State's Dani Yoho win in 23.62, followed by Jacquie Kimmel of San Diego (23.90) and Hopp at 23.91.
