Senior Angelina Prat set the new LMU record in the 1000 freestyle, claiming one of LMU's seven victories on the road at MPSF-frontrunner UC Davis on Sunday. Prat posted a time of 10:21.83, breaking the previous mark of 10:25.16 set by Rebecca Plume in 2008. The Lions dropped the dual meet to the Aggies, 178-116, but turned in a number of quality swims.
Kjirsten Magnuson and Hannah Calton posted a pair of victories each, with Magnuson earning first-place honors in the 50 freestyle (24.18) and 200 backstroke (2:05.71). Calton earned her victories in the 100 butterfly (57.32) and 200 butterfly (2:05.48).
Senior Rachel Dekar continued her strong swims in the 100 breaststroke event, claiming LMU's sixth and final individual victory with a time of 1:06.30. LMU's 200 freestyle relay team of Calton, Kristen Clarno, Lauren Saylor and Magnuson finished the meet with a strong swim, earning first-place honors with a time of 1:38.54.
The Lions impressed in the 200 freestyle, placing two of the top-three swimmers in the race. Stephanie Horwitz claimed second in 1:57.48, followed shortly thereafter by teammate Lise Soule in 1:58.02.
In addition to Dekar's victory in the 100 breaststroke, LMU also managed to place a swimmer third in that race as Mary Kate Reid touched the wall in 1:08.63.
Other top-three swims for the Lions included Dekar's 2:23.26 in the 200 breaststroke to earn second, Clarno's second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:10.76), Clarno's third-place finish in the 100 freestyle (53.86), and Stacy Maier's third-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:17.73).
The swim against UC Davis was the final tune up for the Lions before the MPSF Championships from February 19-22 at East LA College.
